Kyiv - Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine

(ERSU)

About

The Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine is a joint work of the Presbyterian and Reformed churches in Ukraine.

Beginning in the 1990s, ERSU is now blessed with its own building and dormitories near Holosiivskyi Metro in Kyiv. Students attend in a modular format, with two weeks of intensive, 9-5 course lectures occurring 5 times a year. If nothing happens to bump a student off course, they will graduate in 4 to 5 years, prepared to be pastors, Christian counselors, worship leaders, and Sunday school teachers.

The seminary also offers an online, intensive theology program meant to provide greater theological training to laypeople.

Unfortunately, the seminary has suffered greatly during the war as many of the students have volunteered or been drafted into service.

The January has been possibly the most challenging in Kyiv since 2022, and especially the past two weeks with extreme cold temperatures and two massive Russian attacks on the energy grid in that period (and lots of smaller-scale attacks). On January 9, 240 kamikaze drones and 27 (cruise and ballistic) missiles hit Kyiv and all 6 of Kyiv’s power stations were put out of order. Many people in high-rise apartment blocks in Kyiv have faced periods of up to 25 hours without any electricity, heat or water. Nonetheless, the extreme cold spell has come to an end, and the grid workers have been doing miracles to restore everything as quickly as possible.
From January 12-23 we held our latest intensive teaching module with three classes. Due to the situation in Kyiv, this time our students were all online, unfortunately, but we’re thankful that even with the electricity challenges, we were able to hold classes uninterrupted. We had our latest graduate in December and also published our latest theological journal at the turn of the year. Keep praying for a just peace.

Update for April 2026

Pray for

  • The seminary to make a great impact online through our website and YouTube channel.
  • The safety of our students serving in the military
  • Our students, who are deferred due to the war, will be able to return to their studies
  • More students would enroll, despite the war
  • Our program and curriculum to encourage, strengthen, and equip our students to serve and pastor, even during war
  • Our offered conferences and seminars would equip the wider Ukrainian Church in their role as shepherds and challenge unbelievers to follow Christ

Praise for

  • Our March courses on the Pentateuch and Christology went well despite some electricity outages.
  • Safe travel for our staff and professors.
