Mission to the World’s first missionaries to Ukraine began serving in 1994. Since that time over 100 short-term and long-term missionaries have served there. Currently 20 MTW missionaries devote their ministry to Ukraine.
Texas is closest in size to Ukraine; Texas has approximately 33,000 square miles more territory.

History

Through MTW’s partnership, the first church with Ukrainian leadership was planted in Ukraine in 1993.

Since that time:

 

•          15 Churches have been planted; 10 of which have their own buildings

 

•          Seminary started in Kyiv which now has 40 students from six countries

 

•          Presbytery formed that meets 2x / year

 

•          Clinic built in Belgorod to serve community

 

As the Trinity enables, MTW Ukraine teams will work in Ukraine with the goal of planting more Reformed Presbyterian churches.

2000:
The Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine (ERSU), located in Kiev, was established in 2000. The seminary is a ministry of the Ukrainian Reformed and Presbyterian Churches, training reformed leaders for Ukraine as well as the surrounding region, including Poland, Belarus, and Slovenia. Seminary students from Reformed and non-Reformed denominations train in Russian and Ukrainian at the master’s level. Several graduates have become professors, helping carry on the vision of serving and expanding the Church. Course work has continued throughout the invasion, and, by God’s grace, the seminary completed a sizeable renovation in late 2024.

2022: Russia Invasion

Following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine nine (9) missionary families/singles have had to relocate outside of Ukraine. The work of MTW’s missionaries has necessarily shifted to supporting the EPCU pastors and their congregations. This work has encompassed meeting a wide range of needs during a devastating time of war. 

 

Ukraine Crisis Fund Started
Since the beginning of the 2022 invasion, partnership with the global church has made a world of difference! The global church has responded with financial aid to address a complex set of needs.

 

 

The MTW Ukraine Crisis Fund has provided:

  • Displacement assistance and resettlement aid
  • Mental health services (trauma, stress, grief counseling)
  • Support for those facing military conscription
  • Power solutions for electrical outages
  • Clean water access
  • Winter survival gear (sleeping bags, generators)
  • A location has been identified and work is underway to expand the reach of an existing mental health counseling center

Mission: At the request of the Ukrainian Church and our national partners, to provide personal and humanitarian aid from the hands of churches in the U.S. to the hands of churches and displaced communities in Ukraine.

MTW is a church-planting organization – we plant and revitalize churches and ministries worldwide. For over 30 years we have been carrying out the Great Commission in Ukraine.
